Trip overview
Gotland is a special place in the middle of the Baltic Sea. Just a short trip from the Swedish mainland, but still more exotic than you’d think. Experience the unique landscapes, picturesque sandy beaches and the constant presence of the sea. As well as the exquisite light and the many hours of sunlight on the island. And there’s more – the rich cultural heritage and history of the island are visible and felt everywhere you go.

Preliminary trip program
DAY 1, Friday
06:30 Departure from Linköping, Parking lot in front of Ryd Centrum
09:30 Departure from Stockholm, Generator Hostel Stockholm, Torsgatan 10.
We get on the bus, which will take us to Nynäshamn ferry port. The ferry leaves at 11:25 and arrives at 14:55 in Visby, the main city on Gotland.
15:00 Meet by the bus, at Visby ferry port. We meet our local guide for a guided walk in Visby. The town wall and many historical buildings gave the medieval Hanseatic city of Visby a place in UNESCO’s world heritage list. The town wall, almost 3.5 kilometres in length, is one of the world’s best-preserved city walls. Several of the magnificent medieval trading houses, with their characteristic stepped gables, are still standing, as are many of the 17th and 18th-century wooden buildings.
Later we get on our bus and after a stop in a supermarket, we arrive at Lummelunda guesthouse, located by the sea. Let’s bbq together!
DAY 2, Saturday
08:00 – 08:50 Breakfast
09:00 Departure to a day-trip to Northern Gotland and its neighbour island Fårö. Northern Gotland is the best area to explore “Raukar” – rock formations unique to Gotlands coastline. Farö's scenery is different from the rest of Gotland, even though it only takes seven minutes by ferry to cross the strait. The landscape is more barren, and the sand on the beautiful bare beaches seems even finer. We take a look at incredible Langhammars Sea Stacks, and Helgumannen fishing village. Tiny fields and buildings dot the landscape, and many structures unique to the island are roofed with sedge, a tradition that has been abandoned elsewhere. Farö's most famous resident was Swedish Film Director Ingmar Bergman, who died at his home on the island in 2007.
ca 17:30 Free time for walks and cooking dinner
DAY 3, Sunday
08:00 – 09:00 Breakfast
08:40 Departure to Lummelunda Caves guided tour 09:00-09:45
10:30 Departure to Southern Gotland. We stop by small churches and old fishing villages. We admire views from Högklint - one of Gotland’s highest cliffs that offers a magnificent view of Visby and the Baltic Sea. When back in Visby, you still have some free time for last sightseeing. You can have lunch in one of the cozy cafes and try out the famous Safran pancake.
16:00 - 19:15 Ferry from Visby to Nynäshamn. Meet by the bus, that takes you back to Stockholm.
ca 20:30 Arrival in Stockholm.
