Good to know
Q: How is Covid-19 / Coronavirus affecting Timetravels trips?
A: We are monitoring the situations constantly and you can safely join all the trips online. To read more about the possible effect on the trips and your reservation, you can visit our website page here.
Q: How is Covid-19 / Coronavirus affecting my flight?
A: The flight companies and the airports have implemented various safety measures, we recommend that you familiarise with them before the trip starts.
Q: How is Covid-19 / Coronavirus affecting my flight ticket cancellation and date change option?
A: We recommend that you check the flight ticket insurance and cancellation policy of your flight company. In case of ticket cancellation or trip date change, your flight ticket provider will be the only one in charge of the ticket refund or date change.
Q: I will arrive/depart on a different date.
A: You are free to spend some more time in Iceland! If you arrive a day before the trip or staying one night longer, you can save the trouble and book through Timetravels. However, if you need accommodation for multiple nights, it is better to check actual availability and prices online.
Q: How can I get from the airport to Reykjavik?
A: Gray Line Airport Express and Flybus run to a schedule connecting with every flight and drop you off in the center (you can save money if you buy a return ticket). There are taxis as well but be prepared for high rates. Find more information here: https://www.isavia.is/en/keflavik-airport/parking-and-transport
If you wish to save the trouble, book the round bus ticket through Timetravels.
Q: What clothes should I pack for a trip to Iceland?
A: The weather in Iceland could be the most challenging you have ever experienced. Get ready for very strong wind, possible rain and/or snow or strong sunshine. The following list is good to check
-
Good walking/hiking shoes are recommended due to the terrain in the countryside
-
Everything windproof and waterproof (you can expect to get wet even during a sunny day)
-
A small raincoat (an umbrella won't help)
-
Swimming suit and towel
-
Waterbottle (Icelandic tap water is clean and tasty)
If you do not have warm and waterproof clothes, you can rent them in Reykjavik here. When booking, you have to add "Timetravels15" to comment, pay the full price but then you receive a 15% refund for ordered clothes at the end of the rental period.Q: Do I need a sleeping bag or bed linen for the hostel?
A: Bed linen is included in your room, but not a towel. You can rent a towel in each accommodation (3 different ones plus lagoon), expect the price around 700 ISK per accommodation. A sleeping bag is strongly forbidden in all places!
Q: Can I take the local busses in Reykjavik?
A: Most of the city is within walking distance. But if you would like to go a bit further, you can take the local busses. The fare is 420 ISK. Notice! They don’t give a change on the bus. You can find bus stops right outside the hostel and it’s possible to buy bus cards at the hostel reception. We recommend checking www.straeto.is for more information.
Q: Do I have to exchange money to ISK before the trip?
A: All services in Iceland accept cards (except for the city buses and some toilets so it is good to have a few coins). In general, you don’t need to exchange money, but if you prefer cash, you can do so in all banks in Iceland. Notice that the banks are not open during weekends. You can also use your card to withdraw from an ATM.
Q: Can I buy alcohol in the shops in Iceland?
A: Alcohol is not sold in any supermarkets in Iceland. You have to go to Vínbudín, the only shop allowed to sell alcohol. The opening hours are generally between 11-18.
Q: I have heard that you can shop tax-free in Iceland, is that true?
A: All purchases exceeding 6000 ISK are valid as tax-free. Refunds are paid on all goods that are exported in the traveler’s personal luggage. Notice that the goods must be unused. This does not include purchases for services such as food and drinks at restaurants. The shop will provide you with a tax refund form with your receipt. By filling it in you apply for a tax refund at the airport at departure.
